Mapping Orthopedic Disease in Border Collies
From Morris Animal Foundation's Website: "Many breeds of large dogs develop osteochondritis dissecans, a developmental orthopedic disease. This study maps the genomic regions associated with this disease in Border Collies. Once these regions are identified, scientists can develop genetic tests for breeding purposes to reduce the incidence of the disease in the breed." Grant: D13CA-403 Primary Investigator: Dr. Marjo K. DNA Samples Needed
Dr. Marjo K. Hytönen is requesting DNA samples from border collies. Samples from dogs with OC/OCD lesions and from dogs that have been screened clear of OC/OCD lesions are needed. The researchers are requesting the dog's pedigree, digital radiographs and/or a veterinarian's description of the lesions in addition to blood samples.
